    56th Engineers’ Day

    The 56th Engineers’ day was celebrated with great enthusiasm by The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre at its Institutional Complex Jammu in which Shri H Rajesh Prasad, IAS, Principal Secretary to Government, Power Development Department, J&K Govt. was the Chief Guest, in presence of Prof. Dr. Bhawna Sharma, FIE, Chairman and Er. Sachin Tickoo,MIE; Honorary Secretary of IEI, Jammu Local Centre and attended by large numbers of engineers from various departments and organizations. This day is celebrated all over the country to commemorate the 162nd birth anniversary of the greatest engineer Sir M. Visvesvaraya, Bharat Ratna. On this occasion, Er. Sachin Tickoo, Honorary Secretary extended gratitude warm welcome to Shri H Rajesh Prasad, IAS, for having consented to grace the occasion as Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Bhawna Sharma, FIE in her welcome address while recalling the distinguished services of Sh. Rajesh Prasad, IAS in various capacities while working in national capital territory of Delhi and at other important positions. She also extended special welcome to senior engineers who continued to exhibit their dedication and passion for their profession, going above and beyond to be part of our celebrations on this day. Rich Tributes to Sir M. Visvesvaraya were paid by Er. Rabinder Shekher, FIE on behalf of IEI, Jammu Local Centre in which he highlighted the sterling qualities of Sir M. Visvesvaraya like Austerity, Integrity, Competence and Discipline. Further, on this occasion Er. Lalit Mengi,FIE; Retd. Chief Engineer, R&B & Retd. Managing Director, Housing Board was honoured with IEI Award for his outstanding services rendered to the engineering profession and to the Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre. He was presented with a Gold Medallion as a mark of respect & Er. Rabinder Shekher, FIE with D. K. GUPTA Engineer of the year award for his life time achievements to the engineering profession. IEI, Jammu also presented R. L. Sharma Memorial Gold Medal to Er. Ajay Sharma for presenting the Best Technical Paper Rudra Bhagwati Silver Medal to Er P K Nanda for presenting 2nd best technical paper and IEI Bronze Medal to Er Joy Ganjoo for presenting 3rd best technical paper during the year 2022 – 23. IEI, also honoured Er. Ajay Sharma, Er. P. K. Nanda, Er. B. L. Rawal, Er. Ranjeev Sawhney; Er. Sumil Goyal, Er. Joy Ganjoo, Member Technologist, Er. Akash Dusgotra & Er, Anil Kumar with mementoes for presenting two or more technical papers during the year 2022 – 2023. Further in recognition of active participation of students from GCET & MIET on the occasion of World Engineering Day & Energy Conservation Day merit certificate & participation certificate are also presented. In addition to above first issue of 21st Volume of quarterly IEI Jammu News – Newsletter of Jammu Local Centre was also released by the Chief Guest in presence of Editorial Board comprising of Prof. Dr. Bhawna Sharma, Chairman cum Editorial Director, Er. P. K. Nanda, Er. Anil Verma, Er. Pooja Wazir & Er. Sachin Tickoo, Hony. Secretary. While speaking on the occasion, Sh. H Rajesh Prasad, IAS, highlighted role of engineers in the development of the country especially remarkable progress achieved in the Power sector, Roads & Buildings and modern artificial intelligence based applications to prepare the country to make huge impact on the world map. He acknowledged the role of J&K Engineers both public and private sector in making landmark progress towards the development of the union territory. He also sought cooperation from the institution in creating a techno vibrant environment in Jammu region so that dearth of skilled technically sound manpower is addressed and void felt by public and private sector are addressed. The inaugural session was followed by a technical session which was chaired by Sh. Sandeep Gupta, IRSE, Chief Project Manager, USBRL, Norther Railways, Jammu. He presented detailed presentation on Udhampur, Srinagar, Baramula Rail Link Project (USBRL) which involves a 272 Km. long Railway Line from Udhampur to Baramulla joining the Kashmir valley with the Indian Railways network under USBRL. This project has been the most challenging works undertaken post-independence by Indian Railways. In view of importance of USBRL project in providing seamless and hassle-free connectivity, the Project was declared as “National Project” in 2002. The alignment of USBRL involves construction of a large number of Tunnels and Bridges in highly rugged and mountainous terrain with most difficult and complex Himalayan geology. Further 05 nos papers were presented by Er. P. K. Nanda, Er. B. L. Rawal, Er. Joy Ganjoo, Er. Akash Dusgotra & Er. Anil Kumar on the theme “Engineering a Resilient Future: Building stronger, smarter and safer”. Er. Sachin Tickoo, MIE; Honorary Secretary of the centre conducted the proceedings of the function and presented vote of thanks to the august engineers, guests, line departments, Information Department and media persons for making this function a grand success.

On this occasion Shri Shiv Anant Tayal, IAS, Managing Director, JPDCL Power Development Department, J&K Govt., Jammu was the Chief Guest. At the outset, Dr. Sanjay Khar, FIE, Chairman of IEI, Jammu Centre presented the Welcome Address. Rich Tributes were paid by Er. P. K. Nanda, MIE; Former Honorary Secretary, IEI Jammu Centre in which he highlighted the sterling qualities of Sir M. Visvesvaraya like Austerity, Integrity, Competence and Discipline. Further, on this occasion Er. P. B. Khajuria, FIE was honoured by the Chief Guest with IEI Award for his outstanding services rendered to the engineering profession and to the Institution of Engineers (India). He was presented with a Gold Medallion as a mark of respect. Chief Guest also presented R. L.     54th Engineers’ Day

    The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre celebrated 54th Engineers’ Day today at its Institutional Complex, Channi Himmat, Jammu. It was attended by the engineers from various departments and organizations physically within the ambit of Covid-19 restrictions and was also join by large number of engineers online. This day is celebrated all over the country on 15th September to commemorate the birth anniversary of the greatest engineer of India “Bharat Ratna, Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya”. Er. B.B. Sharma, FIE Former Chairman, IEI, Jammu Centre was the Chief Guest and chaired the function. In addition to this the function was presided over by Dr. Sanjay Khar, FIE; Chairman IEI Jammu Centre. The proceedings started with garlanding of the bust of Sir. M. Visvesvaraya. Dr. Sanjay Khar, FIE, Chairman of IEI, Jammu Local Centre presented the Welcome Address. He also deliberated on the theme “Engineers for Skill Development & Employment in combating COVID” of 54th Engineers’ Day and highlighting the activities undertaken by the IEI Jammu Local Centre. Rich Tributes were paid to Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya by Er. Anik Gutpa,FIE. He also highlighted the lifelong achievements, sterling qualities, austerity, integrity, competence and discipline of the greatest icon of engineering profession. Further, on the occasion, the Chief Guest honoured Er. V. N. Sharma, FIE; with IEI AWARD for the year 2021 for his life time achievements on the engineering profession. Er. V. N. Sharma Chief Engineer (Retd.), has also been a Non–Official Member of Regional Empowered Committee for Northern Region Chandigarh, Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change covering the states of Haryana, Punjab & Union Territory of Chandigarh for two terms i.e. 2014-16 & 2016-18. The Chief Guest also honoured Er. B. L. Rawal,MIE with D. K. GUPTA ENGINEER OF THE YEAR award for the year 2021 for his life time achievements to the engineering profession. Er. B. L. Rawal, Retired Executive Engineer & Former Honorary Secretary, IEI, Jammu Centre. Er. Vijay Kumar Sharma & Er. Sachin Tickoo were awarded with R. L. Sharma Memorial Gold Medal for presenting the Best Technical Paper, Er. Vinod Kumar & Er. P. K Nanda, MIE were awarded with Rudra Bhagwati Silver Medal for presenting 2nd best technical paper and IEI Bronze Medal was presented to Er Anil Verma, MIE & Er. Vinod Kumar, MIE for presenting 3rd best technical paper for the year 2020 & 2021 respectively. Sharma, Chief Guest desired that the Government must think of providing a fixed tenure to Chief Engineers as the infrastructure project have a long gestation period. Chief Engineers who achieve the targets and show the required ability need to be encouraged and after all Er. E. Shreedharan, the famed MetroMan did not choose himself. His retention in positions of authority resulted in expeditious delivery of a number of milestone projects for the county. Er.     53rd Engineers’ Day
    The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre celebrated 53rd Engineers’ Day on 15th September 2020 at its Institutional Complex, Channi Himmat, Jammu through virtual meet. It was attended by large numbers of engineers from various departments. The day is celebrated all over the country on 15th September to commemorate the birth anniversary of the greatest engineer of India “Bharat Ratna, Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya”. The proceedings started with garlanding of the bust of Sir. M. Visvesvaraya by the Chairman of the Centre, Dr. Sanjay Khar, FIE. In his welcome address, he elaborated on the activities undertaken by Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre and informed the fellow engineers about the web meeting facility created at the Centre. Rich Tributes were paid to Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya by Dr. Bhawna Sharma; FIE. She highlighted the lifelong achievements, sterling qualities, austerity, integrity, competence and discipline of the greatest icon of engineering profession. Er. Anik Gupta, FIE; Member Editorial Board, IEI Jammu Centre gave an online presentation on the theme of the day “Engineers for a Self- Reliant India”. Er. Shri Sanjeev Verma, IAS, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu was the Chief Guest on the occasion.The proceedings started with garlanding of the bust of Sir. M. Visvesvaraya. First of all Er. Ravi Chanyal, FIE, Chairman of IEI, Jammu Local Centre presented the Welcome Address. While describing the activities undertaken by the IEI Jammu Local Centre, the Chairman also highlighted the burning issues of the engineering fraternity viz regularizations and Assured Carrier Progression. Rich Tributes were paid to Sir M. Visvesvaraya by Er. Ajay Sharma, MIE, Executive Engineer (Mech.), PHE Dept. He highlighted the lifelong achievements, sterling qualities, austerity, integrity, competence and discipline of the greatest icon of engineering profession. L. Sharma Memorial Gold Medal for presenting the Best Technical Paper, Er. Vinod Kumar, MIE was awarded with Rudra Bhagwati Silver Medal for presenting 2nd best technical paper and IEI Bronze Medal was presented to Er. This day is celebrated all over the country to commemorate the birth anniversary of the greatest engineer of India Bharat Ratna, Sir M. Visvesvaraya.

    On this occasion Shri Sanjeev Verma, IAS, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu and Shri Ramesh Kumar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu were Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.

Sunil Kumar Sharma, Hon'ble Minister of State, PWD (R&B) and Revenue, J&K Government, was the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.

    Further, on this occasion Er. D. S. Pawar, FIE was honoured by the Chief Guest with IEI Award for his outstanding services rendered to the engineering profession and to the Institution of Engineers (India). He was presented with Gold Medallions as a mark of respect.

    On this occasion Sh. Sham Lal Chaudhary, Hon'ble Minister for Public Health Engineering, Irrigation & Flood Control Department, J&K Government, was the Chief Guest.

    Further, on this occasion, the Hon’ble Minister honoured Er. K. R. Suri,FIE; General Manager, O&M (Retired), Power Grid Corporation of India, Jammu with D. K. GUPTA ENGINEER OF THE YEAR award for the year 2016 for his life time achievements to the engineering profession. Er. Inderjit Singh, FIE; former Chief Engineer, Hydraulic, J&K Govt. was also honoured by the Chief Guest with IEI Award for his outstanding services rendered to the engineering profession and to the Institution of Engineers (India). Both of them were presented with Gold Medallions as a mark of respect.
